Safeguarding statement

At Folly Hill infant School we strongly recognise the need for vigilant awareness of safeguarding issues. It is important that all staff have appropriate training and induction so that they understand their roles and responsibilities and are confident about carrying them out. Staff, pupils, parents and governors should feel confident that they could raise any issues or concerns about the safety or welfare of children and know that they will be listened to and taken seriously. This will be achieved by maintaining an ethos of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and protecting staff. This is supported by clear behaviour, anti bullying and child protection policies, appropriate induction and training, briefing and discussion of relevant issues and relevant learning through our PSHE curriculum.

Flu - advice

In line with our flu policy, we issue the following advice:

If you do catch flu:
  • Stay at home and rest
  • Take medicines such as aspirin, ibuprofen or paracetamol to relieve the symptoms (following the advice with the medicines).  Persons under 35 must not be given aspirin or ready-made flu remedies containing aspirin
  • Drink plenty of fluids
You can reduce, but not eliminate, the risk of catching or spreading influenza during a pandemic by:
  • Covering your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, using a tissue when possible
  • Disposing of dirty tissues promptly and carefully - bag and bin them
  • Avoiding non-essential travel and large crowds wherever possible
  • Maintaining good basic hygiene, for example washing your hands frequently with soap and water to reduce the spread of the virus from your hands to your face, or to other people
  • Cleaning hard surfaces (eg kitchen worktops, door handles) frequently, using a normal cleaning product
  • Making sure children follow this advice
Remember that children will be very tired following a viral infection and should rest until completely recovered.

Swimming - Autumn term 2009

Swimming lessons start this year for the new Sunshine class on Thursday, 10th September 2009. Please bring named swimsuits and towel in a plastic bag. Farnham Leisure Centre will be closing for refurbishment later in the term, so there will be 8 sessions only. Please see the school calendar for detail.

Contributions towards the cost will be £46-00. Please send your payment in at the beginning of the term. Cheques payable to Folly Hill Infants School - Swimming Account please. If you are experiencing any financial difficulty, please feel free to discuss this with me in confidence.

Birthdays

Birthdays are very special.  During the week of your child’s birthday, they will blow out the candles in assembly and receive an age sticker.  During their birthday month they will sit at the birthday lunch table and receive a little gift from Mrs Baldwin.

As we are a Healthy School we do not allow children to bring sweets or cakes to share with other children. Thank you for supporting us with this.

Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)

Otherwise known as a Learning Platform!  The idea is that pupils will be able to access learning opportunities from home and parents will be able to read online reports.  All schools will need to have this in place by 2010.  Staff at Folly Hill School will be watching a demonstration on October 9th.  We will keep you posted on any developments.

Adult readers

There is a selection of books available for adult readers on our white bookshelf in Starlight Class. Please come, have a browse and take a book home to read.

Parents' Questionnaire

At the end of last year, Rainbow parents completed a questionnaire about their first year at Folly Hill. I have attached the findings to this newsletter. Many, many thanks to all the parents who took the time to fill in the questionnaire.
