Headlines October 2008

Dear Parents/carers,

What a lovely start to the year - the children and parents have all settled very well in their new classes! It has been really good to see so many of you at our school events. Open evenings, workshops, coffee mornings, meetings church services, Book Week have been well attended –thank you. Thank you to the group of parents who attended the Internet Café; I hope you found it useful and thank you to Mrs Nixon for running the café.

Parents have been in and out of school helping with a wide range of activities such as library, gardening, Golden Time, swimming and reading stories. Please let us know if you would like to help around school.

Please note we have a “No waiting” area at the top of the steps - this should make going onto the playground safer for children.
Our School Development Plan targets are now firmly in place and have been agreed by our governors. We have made particularly good progress already in developing our arts curriculum and the staff would like to say thank you for the level of input you are putting in at home and the high levels of communication between home and school - it is vital and helpful.

We will be introducing our first three learning tools next term along with the rest of our Confederation schools; we will send you more information about this soon.

We are delighted to welcome Neal Appleton and Jo Bale onto our governing body. We hope you will Work hard, aim high and have lots of fun! Our governors do an excellent job providing strategic leadership of the school and acting as critical friend which enables us to move our learning provision on and hopefully upwards.

I am attaching below a list of best books for 2008. I have added some ideas for using a book with a cross-curricula approach. They may help you with using other books as inspiration.

Have a lovely break,
Work hard, aim high and have fun!
