Autumn Term 2008 - October Newsletter

Dear Everyone,

We hope you have all enjoyed September at Folly Hill School.  Thank you so much for excellent attendance at parents/carers events so far.  We had a lively Friends AGM with lots of events planned for the year ahead.  The Macmillan coffee morning raised £45 for cancer research - thank you for the cakes and the donations.  I hope my talk on the School Development Plan didn’t spoil your appetite!  Rainbow parents attended a “Welcome coffee morning” and a highly inspirational presentation by Ingrid Bailey on “Reading with attitude” as well as talks by staff on learning to read at Folly Hill School.  Gardening Saturday was a delightful occasion as always and I really enjoyed the opportunity to chat to pupils as we dug!

We have had our sunflower measured as part of “Farnham in Bloom” schools competition - they needed a ladder. We will soon be having our pumpkin weighed - lets hope it’s another prize winner!

Our bid for Artsmark got off to a flying start with our Arts week based on “The Mousehole Cat”.  The children produced some wonderful art, music, dance and drama. Please look out for examples of these at our “Meet the Parent” evenings.

The clubs have now all started for the Autumn term.  All the children had a taster session of football with SCL soccer school - they all enjoyed themselves enormously.

Staff have already had training opportunities - a particular success was the literacy conference attended by Mrs Farr and Mrs Peck.  They found Pie Corbett to be an inspirational speaker and we will continue to use some of his strategies to encourage children to write.

I am always pleased to have feedback and ideas from parents.  Mrs Needham has entered a competition to win gardening items for school.  If more people enter there is a better chance we will win!  Please visit the following weblink for more details :
