Dear All,

Ofsted has directed all schools to check their safeguarding in schools to ensure children are safe and cared for. We have risk assessed our procedures here at Folly Hill and are happy that our children and staff are safe.

However we there are some areas we need to tighten up on in order to fulfil Ofsted regulations:

We will be installing a gate at the front of the school which will be closed when children are on the playground.
We will need to ensure that non CRB checked persons are not in the school unaccompanied and this includes parents. Contractors will be asked to come before or after school. If this is NOT possible they will be accompanied at all times.

Haiti fundraiser a huge success

On Wednesday 10th February 2010, Folly Hill Infant School joined with their local community to raise funds for Save the Children's Haiti appeal.

The aim of the evening was to make our friends and neighbours feel special and pampered whilst raising lots of money for a good cause.

We made an incredible £2,373.11!

Folly Hill School to Collect Stamps for Hearing Dogs

Have you ever wondered what to do with all those stamps which come on your Christmas envelopes?

Well this year collect them and bring them to school in January. We are entering a competition to see which school can collect the most stamps. If we win we get some recycled outdoor furniture. All money raised from the stamps will go to Hearing Dogs for the Deaf.

Flu - advice

In line with our flu policy, we issue the following advice:

If you do catch flu:

Stay at home and rest
Take medicines such as aspirin, ibuprofen or paracetamol to relieve the symptoms (following the advice with the medicines). Persons under 35 must not be given aspirin or ready-made flu remedies containing aspirin
Drink plenty of fluids

Swine Flu

Current alert level: 6. This means the WHO have indicated that a global pandemic of Swine Flu is under way.

We have had children absent from school with flu-like symptoms. Please follow this »link« to read our advice issued in accordance with our flu policy.

Vouchers and Tokens

Sainsbury vouchers
The 2009 Sainsbury Active Kids vouchers scheme started on 11th February. Every Active Kids Voucher gives you the chance to win a £50 shopping voucher every 5 min. Enter the free draw and then bring your vouchers into school.

With vouchers collected last year, each classroom has had lots of new equipment to use in their outside areas including a bowling alley! Many thanks to all those who collected vouchers.

Tesco for Schools and Clubs

Tesco for Schools & Clubs 2009 is running in place of Computers for Schools and Sports for Schools & Clubs. Bring your vouchers to school!

Nestlé Box Tops

We raised £50 from Nestlé Box Tops this year (2008 - 2009) - thank you for your support.

Do you eat Shredded Wheat, Shreddies, Cheerios or other Nestlé cereal or cereal bars? Then cut out the tokens on the packets and bring them into school! We have already started collecting for next year!

Flora Tokens
Mrs Helliwell is collecting tokens from Flora lids for cookery items.

The Times / The Sunday Times - Books for Schools
We are also collecting the Books for Schools tokens from The Times/The Sunday Times.
