Folly Hill School to Pay for Recycling
Recycling facilities provided at Folly Hill Infant School may have to go if Waverley Council follow through on their plans to charge for the collection of recyclable waste.
A disturbing development on the eco front came this morning in the form of an email from Waverley Council to our head teacher, Mrs Green, outlining a new proposal to charge for this service to schools at a rate of £36 per lift (amounting to £864 per year). Mrs Green pointed out that we have had recycling facilities for paper, card and cans at the school for a year now. Provided free of charge, this service is also available for the community to use.
Mrs Green felt that there is not a school in the area who would be able to pay this sort of money. Consequently all card and paper rejected by schools will now end up in landfill. This is not in line with the education of the future citizens and carers of our planet.
