Strictly Come Folly Hill

On Wednesday 24th March we will be having an afternoon of dance!

Welcome to “Strictly Come Folly Hill ! ! ”

The children will need to come to school dressed in party clothes.
We will be teaching them a variety of dances and practising some they have done before.  We’ll also have some special guests performing (Michele the cook being one of them!!)

We will also be giving the children the opportunity to show off their dance skills.  If your child would like to perform a dance routine (anything from Bollywood to street dance, tap, Latin…) we would love them to take part.  The prepared routine should be no more than 2 minutes and they will have to bring in their own CD.  They can perform individually, in pairs or groups.

Number fun

Here are a few ideas from parents for improving number skills. Not all ideas need a number bag!
  • Play Monopoly to improve money skills
  • Remember to practise the time in digital as well as analogue
  • Use bead strings for number bonds
  • Set your child problems to solve using the resources - eg people at cinema or swimming - if 10 people are swimming, 2 in yellow tunnel and 1 in blue - how many are in the red?
  • Counting down from 20 in 2s, 5s etc
  • Parent writes number on board and child has to work out if it is odd or even
  • Use coin fan to make amounts of money to £1
  • Pop to the shops - use money fans to buy from a pretend shop
  • If you are early for school - use the time to count in 2s, 5s etc
  • Use hundred square to subtract single digit numbers from double digit
  • Make money towers - add up the money until the tower falls!
  • Introduce negative numbers
  • Select two random number cards and add them using the number line
  • Find numbers around the house - write them on the board and then use them to make up number sentences
  • Sorting buttons into sets - colour, number of holes, size, covered in fabric etc.
  • Lay out the number cards - which card is missing?
  • Throw the dice then write the number on the whiteboard
  • Line up some of your toys - throw the dice and take that number of toys away
  • Fill containers at the sink - which holds more/less?
  • Recognise shapes when working on art and craft

Number bag workshop

Thanks to all the parents who came to our new style number bag workshop - it went very well! Parents and children sat on mats with their number bags, invented games and swapped ideas with other parents. I hope you carried on sharing the games after the workshop!
